Thanks to an amazing cultural heritage and variety of stunning architecture Prague has become one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations. The capital of the Czech Republic which is situated in the heart of Central Europe presents an artistic wealth which is not hidden away inside museums and galleries, but exposed in the streets and squares. The plentitude of historic buildings and monuments accumulated in the centre of Prague has remained unchanged and undamaged even though Prague has experienced World War I as well as World War II. Actually you can admire eleven centuries of architecture on a walk through the historical core of the city. To tell the truth it would be hard to decide which style is the most typical for the city. The development of the Romanesque style began already in the 10th century, in Prague you can come across many Romanesque buildings, e.g. the Royal Palace or the Basilica of St. George. Then all Gothic architecture enthusiasts will be delighted by the Gothic churches, monasteries and other buildings. Some of them are mixed with the Renaissance style, for example parts of the Prague castle. Consequently also a devotee to the Renaissance architecture won’t be disappointed because there are so many palaces and middle-class houses, churches and water towers built in this style. Further there is a countless plenty of Baroque palaces, houses, churches and monasteries, along with some Baroque rebuildings of Gothic churches. It may seem unbelievable but there is much more to this, aside from already mentioned Prague can be proud of its numerous Neo-Classical and Romantic architecture, parks and farmsteads. Later during the last third of the 19th century new ideas came up and many Neo-renaissance and Neo-baroque building as well as some municipal parks are the results of those notions. Of course you will find 20th century and modern architecture too. As follows Prague truly is an open museum of architecture of all times you mustn’t miss!

Understandably it’s not only the diversity of astonishing architecture, but also a wide range of museums, galeries, theaters and all kinds of clubs, pubs, night clubs, discos, restaurants or tearooms what attracts the tourists to visit „Golden Prague“. That means Prague can be an interesting and pleasant destination for anyone. No matter if you travel with your partner, friends, alone or with the whole family including children, you will always find the right places to go to. You will certainly enjoy your stay there and the longer you stay the more you will see and experience. In addition to all the sights situated in the historic centre there also many interesting places to visit in Prague’s outer suburbs or you can go on day trips to castles or chateaux some 40km away from Prague.
Prague is a very romantic and charming city, just be aware of pickpockets and as a woman you shouldn’t walk alone through the park next to the main station (Hlavní nádraží) at night – it may not be really a safe place. Anyhow in general Prague can be considered a safe city.
Certainly you will be satisfied with the public transport disposing of buses, trams, metro and also a well elaborated network of night buses and trams. The orientation in the centre of Prague shouldn’t really be a problem because all the streets are well marked with street names and if you go sightseeing the signposts on the streets may help you to find the right way.

The Old Town Square with the Old Town Hall and its famous Astrological clock is just one of the places you mustn’t miss, as already stated Prague offers you a multitude of interesting places to visit. There are many possible walking tours which encompass the most important sights, the most popular one is the “Royal Way”. This walking tour is the ancient coronation route leading from Powder Gate up to Prague Castle. On the way you will see the most picturesque parts of the Old Town and Lesser town with its famous historical buildings and monuments. The most widely known sights you will come across on this route are the Municipal House, Powder Gate, House of the Black Madonna, Celetna street with its Baroque facades, Old Town Square, Old Town Hall, Hotel Paříž which represents the Art Nouveau style, St James Church, Týnský dvůr, Church of Our Lady Before Týn, Karlova street, Klementinum, St Clement Church, Assumption Chapel, Church of the Holy Saviour, Charles Bridge (which is one of the oldest in the Central Europe), St Nicholas Church , Strahov Monastery and of course the Prague castle.
